For contributors

You were going to have an opinion about it anyway.

Vouch is a record of local places to eat and drink, written by people who go there.

Submitting a review takes about sixty seconds. You get a profile of your reviews, points and badges. The more points you have, the bigger your chance of winning this month's food voucher.

01

What earns points

Weighted by effort, not volume.
More useful takes are worth more.

Confirmed take with text and a photo

Confirm the visit, say what the place was like and add a photograph of the food, room or storefront. The photograph adds one point.

Verified take, written, no photo

Same standard of writing, no picture. Still useful, still counts, worth slightly less because the photo is the part nobody else can supply.

Unverified take

No receipt or booking confirmation. It publishes normally, is marked as unverified and carries a third of the weight in the venue's rating.

Not verified 1point

Twelve points count toward each monthly draw.

You keep every point you earn. Once twelve count toward a month's draw, more reviews still help other diners and stay on your profile.

What vouched means

Two ways to show you went.
Either one is enough.
Method one

Photograph the receipt

Snap it at the table. We read the venue and the date off it and never publish the image. Works after the fact, which is the usual case.

Method two

Forward the booking

A confirmation email with the venue and date in it. Useful for places where the receipt goes in the bin before you think about it.

Verification shows that a review came from a real visit and gives it more weight in the venue's rating.

The monthly draw

One winner is a story.
Four winners is a habit.

The prize grows with participation.

Every qualifying take filed in the month adds to the pot. A quiet month makes a small one, a busy month makes a big one, and you can watch it move on the leaderboard.

If a month falls short of two hundred takes, nothing is drawn. Points carry forward and the pot compounds into the next month rather than paying out to a pool of eleven people.

Prizes are meals, tabs and other food rewards at participating local places. Winners are announced in the newsletter.

Things Vouch will not do

These rules are designed to keep reviews and ratings useful.

  • Pay for positive takesPoints are earned for reviewing, whatever you said.
  • Hide bad takes from the public pageNothing is routed privately to a venue instead of publishing.
  • Sell a ranking, a category or an awardSubscription status is invisible to how any of it is decided.
  • Let a venue delete a take it dislikesThey get a public right of reply. That is all.
  • Take a place off the list for not payingEvery venue in a covered Vouch patch is listed.
  • Weight a take by who wrote it about themselvesSelf reviewing is what verification exists to stop.

Local places still have nothing written about them.

First to review any of them earns three bonus points and a mark on your profile that stays there.

Find a place to review Or file a take without an account. It still helps the guide.
